MEET PETER HUBBARD

Peter Hubbard has been advocating for GA consumers as an expert witness since 2019

Peter Hubbard has been advocating for GA consumers as an expert witness since 2019

Raised just across the border in TN, Hubbard earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Memphis, then earned a Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University in International Affairs with specializations in International Economics, Energy, Resources & Environment, and Quantitative Methods & Economic Theory.

Professionally, Hubbard has 15 years of energy sector experience, developing electric utility Integrated Resource Plans (IRP), running electricity models, natural gas models, performing organized market analysis in North America, global gas market analysis, commodity price projections, risk analysis, capacity expansion & production cost modeling, and new technology assessments.

In 2019 Hubbard founded the nonprofit Georgia Center for Energy Solutions to fight for clean energy and lower power bills.  He also works for a solar developer, building grid-scale solar and energy storage systems in states less hostile to renewable energy such as TX and LA.

Hubbard has lived in the Edgewood neighborhood in Atlanta since 2015.  He’s married to his amazing wife and they have two wonderful children.

What’s a Utility IRP?

An Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) is a long-term roadmap that electric utilities use to plan how they will meet future energy demand in a reliable and (theoretically) cost-effective way.

IRPs are highly technical documents  which are approved or rejected by the PSC commissioners.

It’s essential that commissioners understand the nuances of energy generation and fuel markets in order to protect consumers.

Experience Matters

Peter Hubbard has spent the past 6 years advocating for consumers in front of the PSC - without pay - because he is driven by justice, equity, and accountability.

What is the Public Service Commission?

The Public Service Commission’s job is to set appropriate rates and approve plans for future energy generation. But for too long they’ve prioritized investor profits over consumer interests.

Electricity rates have increased 6 times in just the past 2 years.  That money is being used to pad Wall Street investor profits and subsidize data centers throughout Georgia.  Despite a so-called rate freeze, electric bills are slated to increase again.

Looking at how the corporate money flows, it’s not hard to understand why Georgia seniors and families are suffering.

It's time for a change. You deserve to have someone fighting for YOU on the commission.

Doing the Work

Peter Hubbard has prepared sophisticated alternative IRP plans for Georgia that priortizes lowering power bills through smart investments in low-cost and highly reliable solar, battery storage, virtual power plants, energy efficiency and market-based capacity sharing.

Hubbard’s testimony can be downloaded directly from the Public Service Commission’s website by searching for Georgia Center for Energy Solutions or for Peter Hubbard.

We could have inexpensive, clean energy generation in Georgia

The PSC commissioners have routinely favored expensive coal and gas fired plants over clean energy generation which would lower bills and create good paying jobs here in Georgia.

Gas Fired Plants Are an Economic Drain on Georgia. Georgia Power wants to build more of them.

Georgia doesn’t produce any coal or natural gas.  Billions of dollars are being stripped from Georgia’s economy in order to buy expensive, unreliable and dirty fuels.  Meanwhile grid scale solar and energy storage is inexpensive and extremely reliable, but discouraged by the PSC.

You have the opportunity to replace 2 PSC commissioners on November 4, 2025

Two PSC commissioner seats are on ballot in November.

You have a choice — you can keep the two Republican incumbents who voted to raise electric bills 6 times on GA residents while giving data centers a 80% discount on their bill.

Or you can vote to elect Peter Hubbard and Alicia Johnson to the Public Service Commission.

Together we can push back against high power bills and expensive fossil-based fuels, and bring accountability to the Public Service Commission.
